BREAKING POINT

Orlando Shooter Strapped for Cash

CS - Jason Rodriguez
Orlando Police Dept. / AP Photo/

Jason Rodriguez, suspected of killing one person and wounding five at an office in Orlando, was buried under a mountain of debt at the time he allegedly began his shooting spree. According to the Associated Press, Rodriguez told a bankruptcy-court judge that he owed some $90,000 in debts while making only $30,000 a year working at a Subway franchise, where he was employed until recently. "I'm just going through a tough time right now. I'm sorry," he reportedly told police officers, who arrested him without resistance. Rodriguez had been let go from the engineering firm Reynolds, Smith, and Hills, where the shooting occurred, in June 2007 and told reporters he went on a rampage because "they left me to rot." The firm's general legal counsel and chief financial officer, Ken Jacobson, told the AP that Rodriguez's anger was "a mystery to us" and came without warning. "It's been 2 1/2 years," Jacobson said. "We don't know where he's been or what he's done."

Blame others, spend your last dollar on a gun, deny all responsibility for your own failures...where have I heard this before?

Replace "gun" with "surge" and it's the story of the Bush/Cheney administration.

The human cost of Obama's disasterous handling of the economy is huge. Democrats like to boast that the recession is over and wall street is doing so well, but for Americans who are out of work, the despair grows every month as the unemployment rate and poverty rate climbs and Obama and the dems continue to mishandle the economy.

Hi jay:

Why do you think Obama doesn't like kittens? Its true that after months of dithering he eventually was able select a puppy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't like kittens as well. It may well be after many more months of dithering he will eventually decide to get a kitten as well.

Plant - I stand corrected. You did express support for high-speed rail. Please expound on the topic.

Hey Plant, why didn't you denounce this guy as a domestic terrorist as you did for that killer at Fort Hood? Well, consistency isn't your strongest point.

Oh, excuse me. I didn't realize that this was an opportunity for you to take your usual whacks at President Obama.

Thank you for your courteous reply. If you are a fan of high speed rail you might be interested in the article in this month's "National Geographic Traveller" magazine. It discusses the global boom in high speed rail (Spain, Russia, Japan and other countries are currently building) while a network in the US is "coming" but is still "decades" away -- Foolishly, Obama and the dems won't put resources into it.

Actually, Plant, here in Cincinnati, it is being debated whether to put high-speed rail running between Cincy, Dayton, and Columbus using federal funding from the stimulus bill.

Plantkin, in her perverse way, is saying that Obama is responsible for the shooting spree in Orlando. And the rest of you don't respond and call her out? Plantkin, as usual, is cynical and shameless. That's her MO. What excuse do you have?

"The human cost of Obama's disasterous handling...bla bla bla"

Plantkin's obsequious deference to the Limbaugh-Malkin-Townhall.com axis of evil talking points is mind-numbig in itself.

One more idiotic spouting by an embittered loser, lecturing to a world aghast on her own projections of self inadequacy.

Hi Jay:

High speed rail has been "debated" for decades. Only the ill-informed or the naive would be thrilled that the BOers are still "debating" it. Meanwhile countries all over the world have built and expanded their rail networks. For the money that BO wasted propping up failed banks and failed companies like GM and Chrysler, the US could've built a 21st century rail network and become a modern industrial nation again----

piktor - your remarks regarding Plantagenet seem spot on. I've noticed lately that his/her posts are getting more and more "out" there. It seems old Plant may have finally stripped that last gear.

Additionally, Plants 1st remark stating "the dems continue to mishandle the economy" is not only false, it's a partial statement in that no responsibility has ever been laid at the feet of the previous administration and has been brought to the attention of Plant with no realistic response. Plant is a sorry loser.

Hi hfb:

Obviously the dems are mishandling the economy. Did you even notice that the unemployment rate just went over 10%? Unemployment, youth unemployment, the poverty rate, the deficit all have hit record levels on Obama's watch.

Are you falling for the dem's spin that those are all good things?

Having grown up in a state where some people owned as many as 15 guns I learned to shoot and hunt at a very early age. Gun ownership was and is a right to most of us. However, now with the population, financial and other stress significantly higher gun ownership can be dangerous. Any stressed out crazed person with a gun in his or her hand is a potential killer. In this sense, any society that would allow these people to have guns is an accomplice in murder and there will be a never ending number of shooting outbursts in our society. Oh, but it's the person and not the gun you say that does the killing? I can agree with your assessment; it's the person. However, it is my assessment that I have lived with guns all my life and do not want guns in the hands of "sheeple". They are dangerous people on any terms and when they are crazed and stressed out with a gun in their hands the results have been catastrophic. Since I have to live with these explosive people I'd rather be able to confront them on equal terms and not with them having a gun and me not, (I don't carry a gun). Or maybe it is also your assessment that we should all carry a gun in a holster and learn to "quick draw", always being paranoid about where the next shot may come from and ready to shoot back. Wouldn't that be a great way to live? Issue guns to all the "sheeple"; teach them to shoot and carry a gun. Have a great life!!!!!

You been watching to many western movies. Learn a little history before speaking, it will help. The west was won by rounding up all the Native Americans and putting them on reservations. next came the rail roads that made travel easy. Gun totting cowboys were few and far between. Very few citizens in the west even owned hand guns, most everybody owned rifles for hunting, not having shootouts on main street.

Guns don't kill people per se, but easily accessible firearms make it a whole hell of a lot easier for people to snap and to kill other people.

All those badge systems in offices aren't for strangers; they're in place for disgruntled former employees.

The real problem here is that only the "bad" people are armed and will continue to be armed notwithstanding any gun control laws. The rest of the law abiding people (or sheeple as you like to call them; how insulting) need to also be armed. So when some crazed gun toting person starts to shoot, an armed not-crazed person is also on scene and can help control the situation.

It takes time for anger and loss to cook and simmer and then wamo, some go over the edge. Maybe people in high places should spend more time taking care of the underlings instead of travelling to and fro from their many homes.

Either shut up or put up. What's "too easy"? Apparently you've never had any serious stress and so have no empathy for your fellow American....or maybe you're just an insensitive schmuck.

It is a scientific fact that too much stress changes the brain chemistry.I do not know what the answer is, but do worry about this fact. The sad state of the economy, unemployment and health care are all causing added stress to alot of people. Add in all the negative news we listen to constantly, with the division in our country, and the monster comes out. I seriously wish we could all have more fun in life to lighten this huge burden we all are burdened with.
I work with the public, and people are sad and hurting. It isn't pretty.

When credit was so easy to get it didn't take long to run up big debts. To blame his employer who let him go is just the height of irresponsibility. Stress certainly does bad things to most people, those should not have guns, I guess that half of the people in this country will have to surrender their guns. People it seems are their own worst enemies, they can make life so hard for themselves, if only people would learn to live within their means and if they want to do better train or get more education for a better job, don't blame others for the mistakes you made yourself.
